About PlaySnake
PlaySnake is a free snake game that runs in any web browser. A small team called Supervers makes it.
What we're building
We wanted a snake game that just works: open the page, press a key, play. No app store, no account, no pop-ups, nothing between you and the game. PlaySnake has:
- Classic snake on a 20 × 20 grid, with walls or no walls and three speeds
- 2 player snake for two people on one keyboard
- Nokia-style snake with a retro LCD look
- A Snake IO arena with 12 AI snakes, power-ups, skins and XP levels
How it's made
The classic modes are plain HTML5 canvas and JavaScript: no frameworks and no third-party tracking scripts, under 100 KB of code. The Snake IO arena is a separate Next.js/React app with synthesized sound effects. Scores and settings are saved only in your browser. See the privacy policy for details.
Recent changes
- October 2026: moved the game above the fold, and added walls/no-walls and speed settings, 2-player mode, the Nokia LCD skin, pause, swipe-anywhere controls and sharper rendering on high-DPI screens. Snake IO moved to /snake-io/.
- August 2026: launched the how-to-play, tips and history guides.
