2 Player Snake Game

Two snakes on one board and one keyboard. Player 1 uses WASD and Player 2 uses the arrow keys. You both chase the same food. Crash into anything and you lose.

  • Hitting the other snake counts as a crash
  • Head-on collision = draw
  • Walls/no walls and speed apply to both players
  • Press Space for a rematch

Rules for two players

2 player snake (two player snake game) is a head-to-head, local multiplayer version of snake for two people on one computer. Each player steers their own snake. Eating food makes you longer and scores 10 points. The round ends as soon as either snake hits a wall, itself or the other snake, and the snake still alive wins.

The two-player version is the oldest form of snake. The 1976 arcade game Blockade was a two-player duel where each player tried to make the other crash first. This mode brings that duel back, with food and growth from the later single-player games.

Strategy

  • Cut them off: a long snake is a wall. Get your body in front of your opponent's head.
  • Food is a trap: racing for the same piece of food often ends head-on, which is a draw.
  • Use no walls carefully: with wrap-around on, your rival can come through the edge right in front of you.
  • Agree on the speed first: Fast rewards reflexes, Slow rewards planning.

How do you play 2 player snake?

Both players share one keyboard. Player 1 (green) steers with W A S D. Player 2 (blue) uses the arrow keys. Both snakes chase the same food, and the first one to crash into a wall, itself or the other snake loses.

What happens if both snakes crash at the same time?

If both crash on the same step, including head-on, the round is a draw.

Can I play 2 player snake on a phone?

Not yet. Two players need two sets of keys, so this mode needs a physical keyboard. On a phone, play single-player snake or the snake io arena.

Can I play snake online against other people?

This page is local multiplayer, with both of you on the same computer. For a crowded arena, try Snake IO, where you play against 12 AI snakes.
